OK kids I’m older than the average bear…quite a relevant pun as I am technically the oldest student athlete at NYIT and we are called the ‘bears’. I have studied in other countries and cities in the world and enjoyed all of them very much. Here I’m going to use that experience to compare being a student in America to being a student in England. The first difference I managed to overcome with sheer genius is for many people the first thought…the legal drinking age…so hold your horses’ boys and girls, I was legal in England and I’m legal here. So I have been able to drink and party legally in all of my five years of higher education…yes I already said it ‘genius’. Let’s move to the...

It is now possible to stalk another person…or a thousand other people from your computer. Voyeurism is slowly creeping its filthy little way into society as a normal act of sanity. Watching other people’s daily moves and conversations is easy and is now becoming a natural act. Many of us choose to let the world know…’bored in class’…’on the train to knowhere’…’sleeping’. It’s strange but true. So many of us are caught in this strange web of letting everyone know our own business. I’ve tried to fight it myself but it’s hard. This blog is a warning as it is so popular within the student community. I’m the victim of internet stalking…it’s true, only the outcome for me was positive. I do...

Take Casino Management and NYIT 101 to get the credits you need for your completely unrelated degree! I was having a discussion the other day with a friend who has a Casino Management class. ‘I need the credits’ he told me. Sorry, someone in the bursar’s office must have put your wasted dollars in my ears because for a minute there it sounded like you told me it’s going to be useful to you in later life?? My friend is studying Pre Med. I looked into this farce a little more. You see I studied my bachelor degree in England and from discussions with many other Europeans who now study here we have all come to the very strong conclusion that the education level here is low compared to a degree at home. It’s more intense and the good thing about it...

Let me get this off my chest–and millions of other chests: why is American Football, as it’s known on the other side of the pond called “football,” and the other REAL football as I’ve always known it, named “soccer? We call it “football” instead of soccer because the whole point of the sport is…wait for it…you’re only allowed to use your feet, unless you’re a goal keeper! I’m not against the word soccer, although I’ve found some interesting information on its origin. Unfortunately it doesn’t help matters. Apparently, it’s a shortened version of “The Football Association” which is the governing body of English football. The problem is that “Assoc” was the...

I remember the conversation I had with my college soccer coach like it was yesterday. I was at a pay phone on Marbella’s main beach in the south of Spain flexing my tiny biceps when he told me ‘you play hard and you’ll get your Masters’. 16 months later I’m still living in New York and it’s looking very likely that in May of 2010 I’ll graduate with a Masters degree in Communication Arts…how sexual…and more to the point…how unbelievable. I’m going to leave nothing to the imagination here. I came to New York in August of 2008 straight off the back of 12 months backpacking around the globe living on noodles and boxed wine. I had just turned 26 years old and alongside a memory bank smashed full of incredible life experiences...
