Three years ago I came to NYIT newly graduated from culinary school, the burns still fresh on my arms. Receiving some of the world’s top culinary education was an accomplishment that I wanted; it was something that wasn’t easy and that I had to work hard for.
Today there is so much stress put on how to become more “green,” but environmental consciousness has been encouraged since the 1970’s when Earth Day, an annual holiday to celebrate and honor the respect of our planet, was first introduced.
We've arrived! At long last, NYIT joins the ranks of 21st century colleges and universities that have been publishing their campus papers online for quite some time. On behalf of the long-awaited, much anticipated, unduly procrastinated TheCampusSlate.
Dear Readers, I'm so excited to be a part of The Campus Slate as it introduces its online edition with the launch of TheCampusSlate.com. Its extensively awaited and long overdue presence is a great step forward that will provide an easy, current outlet for students to obtain content, while educating staff members on how to run a news Web site.
Welcome back! As always, the Slate awaits you in news racks all around campus and now, online! Catch up on current events and the latest news at NYIT every other week! The recent devastation in Haiti has all of us wanting to lend a hand to the victims.

In issue two, our story “WNYT’s Radio Debacle,” shed light on the absence of broadcast from NYIT’s student-run radio station and the ongoing difficulties involved in getting it back up and running. The story sparked an interest from NYIT Alum and former WNYT staff member, Tom Mortensen.
